What every good Gardener needs is some useful Gardening equipment. At least that's what we all say when we dash to the local Gardening Centre or click buy online. That new handy new light shovel that just went on sale is just what's required! However, not every gardener has every tool and most gardeners will just make do with what they have unless something is really needed. Improvising is the key to keeping costs down and satisfaction up. But if gardening is your main hobby and you spend a lot of time in the garden then you will at least need to have some of the more basic gardening equipment that is needed. As a minimum you'll need, a hoe, a shovel, spade, a trowel and a rake. There is also other gardening equipment that is equally important, and I know that I simply cant be without my riddle for breaking up the soil into small pieces. As the years wear on I find that indeed collect more and more pieces of gardening equipment. The shed has long filled up with tools and sometimes seems to be overflowing. This is the best way to acquire equipment, slow as you need if rather that going out and buying everything in the shop! One of the best tools I have is an old wooden handled kitchen knife that I think is older than I am. Whenever my pruning scissors go missing or I can't find a hoe or drowel, that old kitchen knife takes its place. I just use the tip of the knife to accomplish what I want. It probably sounds like a fairly haphazard way to garden, but as every dedicated gardener knows that if youre knee deep in the middle of something, the last thing youll want to do is to interrupt your work to fetch the proper gardening equipment from your shed. However, some jobs are easier with the proper equipment at hand, and as such it's wothwhile fetching the correct equipment from wherever you shoved it last. One of my favorite pieces of gardening equipment is the garden claw, which is invaluable, especially when weeding. With two varieties available, one for standing work, and for closer work and therefore fitting in your hand, the garden claw makes your life easier. Put the claw in the ground and give it a twist. It pull out the weed or loosens the soil quickly and easily. A boon when removing weeds, especially the ones such as Dandilion where the roots are long and strong. , Really the key thing to remember about gardening equipment is that although we might want it, we dont always need it. However there are certain items of equipment that are must haves and make life much easier. As your gardening progresses, investing in power tools can make life much easier but until you really need them, they aren't cost effective. Anyway, what's wrong with hard graft? |
